You are correct, if the fill fittings accept the R-133 connections you either have a 1994 or newer car, or it was converted. As long as the O-ring is the same size and intended for a R-133 system you are good. A/C units are VERY susceptible to air & moisture. You should replace the dryer and use a vacuum pump to pull the system down to 18" hg for 20 min and then add the Freon. This would not be necessary if your system was just low, but yours has been open to the atmosphere too long. If you do not have access to the necessary equipment I would suggest taking it to a A/C shop for filling. Be prepared to do filling within a few hours of attaching a new dryer so that it does not get contaminated with the moisture existing in your system.
